Happy Dewali! Yesterday was the beginning of the festival of the lights. This festival is one of the biggest festivals of the year in Nepal. Last night we had group after group come to our house to offer a blessing by singing and dancing. (I’m trying to learn to dance like a Nepali, but let me tell you it’s a whole different rhythm.) In exchange for the blessing we give them rice, fruit and money. The kids later gather all the money to have a picnic. All of the houses in Surkhet light up with lights and candles it is so beautiful. I will keep you all posted as the festivities go on…..
